Batguy: Starts Production Notes- Day 5

At the start of the fifth and final day of filming, the cast and crew met at Rocky Butte Park. Before everyone arrived, Brandon Pelling and I (Chad Troftgruben) did a pickup shot of Batguy in his Guy Mobile. Once that was completed, we prepared for the final battle scene. After everyone arrived and got their costumes on, we headed over to the rocky part of the park (oooh, maybe that’s why they call it Rocky Butte Park) and started to film. We stationed Duct Man and his minions on the rocks and with a suggestion from Josh Nichols, we lettered the thugs to spell out the word “Duct” which I thought was pretty funny.

Duct Man (Frank Hurt) and his three thugs (Josh Nichols, Brandon Pelling, and Justin Huber) prepare to fight Batguy.

The fight scene took a little time due to finding the right camera position. It was shot several times and the results were fairly good. Batgal then comes in to save the day. This is actually the second time in the movie Batguy is supposed to appear, but we shot her second scene first.

Batgal (Beth Hurt) saves the day?!

We then did the final shot of Batguy throwing the Guy-a-rang at Duct Man’s dooms day device. Returning back to the green screen room at DSU, we quickly redid the lines from the Rocky Butte scene (since it was windy) and started with the Prankster’s Lair scene. AfterJustin Huber put the Prankster’s costume on, I think I started to question my sanity (as if Brandon’s Dog Woman costume didn’t do that already).

Justin Huber is the Prankster, master of all pranks!

We then did the Prankster’s scene for the parking lot, which just involved Justin talking on a phone (like I did on Day 2). We wrapped up the day (and the movie) with the final sequence where Batguy tries to stop Duct Man’s weapon of destruction. This just required a lot of green screening, fans, and a desk.

Batguy (Chad Troftgruben) hangs on for dear life.

And that concluded the fifth and final day of filming. So, what’s next? In a day or two I will be posting my Batguy Starts Post-Production Notes. Batguy may have finished filming, but the real movie magic is about to begin. Stay tuned!
