Day 4 and 5 of filming was all about green screening (well, almost). On Friday, October 14th at 3:00 PM, Brandon Pelling, Scott Rojic, and I (Chad Troftgruben) entered May Hall, room 312, of Dickinson State University and started to get to work. We basically turned the classroom into our own personal film studio. A green screen was set up on the back wall with clothes pins. The second half of the green screen was placed on the ground, so we could get more into frame. After this was set up,Brandon put his Dog Woman outfit on and we went outside on the campus lawn and filmed a small scene where Dog Woman carries a bone.

Dog Woman (Brandon Pelling) claims her prize.

After shooting this fun little scene, we went back inside and started to film the interior of the dinosaur museum scene. This was all done in front of the green screen. The scene involved Dog Woman chasing two thugs around the museum and Batguy entering the museum.

The two dinosaur museum robbers (Missy Maenle and Scott Rojic) discuss their plans.

After this, we filmed the civilian almost getting hit by a car scene, then went back to filming the Batguy and Dog Woman scenes in the dinosaur museum. We had to do a shot for this when a whip goes around the dinosaur bone and flies out of Batguy’s hands. This was a short sequence, so there’s not much to comment on. It did turn out fairly well though.

It looks like Batguy (Chad Troftgruben) no longer has the bone. Damn that Dog Woman!

After the final shots of Dog Woman and Batguy were filmed for this scene, we discovered that Brandon’s fish net nylons were starting to rip. So, it looks like we got done just in time. Next we filmed the Guy Cave scene. In this scene we simply see Bryce Wade suit up for a night of crime fighting. The scene ends with Millfred, Batguy’s loyal butler, persuading Batguy to drink a cup of milk. Overall the scene went fast, for it was a short montage followed by a little dialogue.

Bryce Wade (Chad Troftgruben) becomes the Batguy!

After this we did the short shot of Batguy falling off the balcony, which will be edited into the first scene later. Then we did the “Batguy montage” which involves Batguy getting from point A to B after his Guy Mobile is damaged. We even did a “climbing up a building shot”. The first time we did it, the camera was positioned wrong and it looked like I was going down the building, so we flipped the camera, shot it again, and the result was pretty impressive.

Josh Nichols (top) tensed the rope while I (Chad Troftgruben) actually pulled on it as I walked and bent my knees. Meanwhile, Brandon Pelling (bottom) held my cape to simulate gravity taking hold of it.

We concluded the day with filming the toy Guy Mobile. This was very interesting considering it took 4 people just to move the damn thing. We tied strings to it and manipulated it in a variety of different ways by how many people pulled on them and in which direction. This will be integrated into the movie along with the interior guy mobile scenes (shot on Day 3).

Josh Nichols and Brandon Pelling prepare the Guy Mobile.

And that concluded day four of the Batguy: Starts production week. Tomorrow I will cover the fifth and final day of production.
