After three and a half years of co-running the DSU Filmmakers, I have decided to step down from my position and focus my full attention on Lilredhead Studios. Here is the e-mail I sent out to all the members incase if you were not on the mailing list: DSU Filmmakers,
Due to our busy schedules, I thought it would be best to wrap up the semester with an e-mail as opposed to an actual meeting. This is probably the most important address I have made to the club, so please read it all.
First of all I would like to sincerely apologize for my lack of administration over the course of the semester. Like for most of us, it has been a busy time for me, but it's also a very exciting time. I can't go into extreme details, but I will tell you what I can. Filmmaking is the career I want to pursue, which is why what is happening right now is so important. That is also why the DSU Filmmakers club has been pushed aside during this semester. I thought I could effectively do both, but filling Josh's shoes as well as maintaining my duties was a much bigger task then I thought. If things continue the way they are now, the DSU Filmmakers Club will die. That now brings me to a very hard decision.
Effective immediately, I am stepping down as President of the DSU Filmmakers. Again, I don't make this decision lightly, but after weighing everything, I feel it's for the best. I co-founded this organization and I certainly don't want to be responsible for it's downfall. It's time to get some new blood into the mix and bring the club back to its feet. With that said, according to our constitution, Bennett Gackle is now acting president unless if the spring elections deem otherwise.
This club has actually been a big part of my life the past three and a half years. If it weren't for the DSU Filmmakers I wouldn't be pursing the opportunities I am right now. The organization is really an anomaly. We stumbled quite a bit in the beginning and many people thought we would never get off the ground. But in less than four years we have produced many entertaining films, ran a film festival, created a seven episode sitcom with very little means, and even won the 2006 DSU Club/Organization of the Year award. I speak for both Josh Nichols and myself that we are proud to have been affiliated with this organization.
Now for the icky stuff. Since I am no longer dealing with the administration side of the club, that means the website will no longer hold DSU Filmmakers' news. However, it will continue to hold all the old films since they are under the Lilredhead Studios name now (based on Amendment IV of the constitution). This doesn't mean I am no longer supporting the club, for I will try to attend meetings and help however I can, I just no longer have control over the administrative stuff. For instance I am going to continue my work on the Dr. Taylor Documentary as well as Sabers II and other loose ends.
Anyway, to wrap this up, I would like to thank you all for contributing to this organization. I've had a lot of fun and hope you have too. If you would like to be added to the Lilredhead Studios mailing list, just let me know. For club inquiries, please contact Bennett Gackle. If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. |
