A Look Back: 2006- The Great Drought

As we boldly step into the year 2007, I cannot help but think how far I have come with Lilredhead Productions. Starting off with the first episode of Mr. Binkee’s Class and achieving what I have with Enterprise: Flashed and I Am Ahoyager is pretty mind boggling to me. And if I can come this far, I know I can go even further! But it’s always fun to step back and see where I’ve actually been and how I’ve gotten to this point today. Over the next few days I will be doing a feature on the past of Lilredhead Productions and where it’s going to lead us in 2007. So hold on, grab some popcorn, it’s time to take a trip into the past!

2006- The Great Drought

This last update is going to be small because 2006 was a pretty uneventful year for Lilredhead Productions. Only one, yes one, cartoon was released in all of 2006. Enterprise: Flashed was no where to be found either. What caused this drought you asked? Well, a couple of things actually.

First of all, in early 2006 I got involved with a new project entitled “Roomies”. This live action student-made sitcom sucked up all of my free time. From February to May, all I did was “Roomies”. The second reason was it seemed like no one cared about Star Trek anymore. Enterprise was dead, a potential movie was to be released at the end of the decade, and the Trek United cause was now just a ridiculous crusade that nobody cared about anymore (it doesn’t look like that’s changing in 2007 either). And so the motivation to keep doing Enterprise: Flashed wasn’t quite there for me.

Where did Enterprise: Flashed go? Maybe Riker ate it…

In the summer I started working with my friend Pete Thomas on a revival of the Ahoyager series. After several sessions of writing, we came to something we both agreed on. I Am Ahoyager was the title of this new series and featured Captain Pakaday in an all new adventure. The series is a reboot and in no way is related to Ahoyager: The Journey Home. I started working on the first episode in July. I really concentrated on the animations this time. Gasp, Captain Pakaday’s mouth actually moves according to what she’s saying now! Hooray!

I Am Ahoyager is all about the mystery surrounding Captain Pakaday’s situation. The episodes are short (roughly three minutes long) and always end with a cliffhanger. The story keeps going from one episode to the next. So by the time the series is done, one gigantic story has been told through multiple episodes. This is, of course, all in theory since only one episode has been released so far.

Pakaday wishes upon a star in the first episode of I Am Ahoyager.

On August 6th, 2006, Chapter 1: Marooned- Episode 1 was released. This episode introduced the new Pakaday, her situation, and a cliffhanger at the end. The episode was fairly popular and is of course to this day waiting for a sequel.

And that’s all that happened in 2006. It’s a bit disappointing, I know. However, I Am Ahoyager was born this year and you’ll be seeing a lot of that to come. Enterprise: Flashed may have been absent in 2006, but that won’t be true in 2007, you can count on that. And this ends the journey into Lilredhead Productions’ past. I hope you enjoyed the trip!
