Minutes for 01/18 meeting.
Filmmakers Meeting Thursday, January 19, 2006 Klinefelter 108 5:00
Present: Chad, Josh, Amy, Brandon, Dr. Haught, Bennett, Karen Nelson, Paul, and Chance.
Absent: the rest Welcome Back, and welcome to any new comers. The website has been behaving kind of erratically. Some times it works, some times it’s slow, some times it’s normal. Chad is aware and is looking into the problem. Chad and Josh made it into the newspaper for the filmmakers club. Both Chad and Josh are either leaving DSU or graduating and therefore will be passing the torch on to someone else. If anyone is interested in taking their places, they need to see either Chad or Josh, or both, and talk with them. Also, we had two freshmen from DHS visiting, who are interested in filmmaking and have received a few awards for films they have done. One such film of theirs will be on the discovery channel. The film festival is planned for Saturday, April 28 in the student center ballroom, which we have reserved from 10-7. We won’t necessarily be in there the whole time, but we do have it set aside. There is a submission form that we went over. The film festival is open to other options like workshops or quizzes or anything else anyone can come up with. Let Josh and Chad know your ideas. There is access to the license free music that the club possesses. We need people to research the copyright laws and stay on top of that so we don’t do anything illegal. There might also be a compilation video of all festival work created later as a memento of the event. The info needed to register is on the forms and a brief summary of the work must also be included. Any additional photos, video clips, outtakes, etc can be submitted. Advertising suggestions include leaving forms at the high schools, checking the website, and maybe looking at sponsorship from Arts on the Prairie. They perhaps have license that would protect the use of copyrighted music. We are looking at getting $1200 from student senate to help pay for this and should have finances figured out by the beginning of February. DVDs of many of the DSU Filmmakers works will be released at the festival as well as shirts, key chains, etc. Anyone with comments, ideas, any clubs wanting to perhaps co-sponsor, should talk to Josh or Chad asap. Dr. Haught was a little concerned that this may turn into a showcase of DSU Filmmaker movies, and suggested that we put in invitation out to those who won the Fargo Film Festival. We are currently working on the Medora project, but it is weather and time permitting. Also, Patti Carr is really pushing for us to make a film for the Alcohol Awareness Project, which may supercede the Sabers II project. |
